The Night I Was Arrested
The drug K2 appealed to me last year because it was cheap and didn't show up in drug tests. On June 27, 2014 I was arrested for DUI. Luckily they didn't find the K2 in my truck.

In November of 2014 I was hospitalized for heart problems as well as lung problems.

Taking this DUI class and making me write an essay has opened my eyes to the dangers of smoking K2. Not only could it not control my anxiety, but I found myself withdrawing from my kids. I have lost a few friends from my K2, yet I didn't stop until November when I was hospitalized.

I am not taking K2 now, but I have side effects from the former K2 use: COPD, not sleeping, higher blood pressure and anxiety. It also made my PTSD worse.

I am changing through grounding and meditation. I have discovered that my family, my kids, my own mental and physical health are worth more than trying to get high.

Taking control and making myself responsible for my actions are the most liberating things. My teenagers and boyfriend have responded and they respect me more. It feels good to know I am free and working on my health.

My life was never what it seemed. I look back at what my life became--a slave to addictions and all the excitement they brought.

Drugs can be used for good or bad. Knives help us in our daily life; however a knife can be deadly.

So with alcohol. Alcohol can lower blood pressure, but in excess its use is a mood altering emotional roller coaster. I know. I have learned that I cannot have one drop of alcohol because I do not have the self-control to know when to stop.

In December of 2014 I gave my heart to the Lord and I am not saying that faith is the only answer to this problem of addiction, but Jesus is my answer and my choice to follow him is the catalyst to change my life forever.

Guest Post: Floyd Chapman's Journey to Sobriety

Floyd Chapman was a student in an April 2015 DUI class I taught and he gave me permission to publish his journey to sobriety. The picture shows Fred as a garden caretaker at Lighthouse Ministries in Lakeland explaining the hydroponics system in a tour of this unique garden.

In the 1970s I started out with smoking pot and drinking beer. I was influenced by family, peer pressure of friends and my own pressure to fit in with the "IN” crowd. It seemed everyone was having a good time and I was one who never wanted that good time to end. In the 80‘s and 90’s there was more of the same, I did whatever it took to keep my high going legally and illegally. Suddenly there came jail and prison with other so-called friends.

In the late 90s I really got tired of jail food and tired of those friends. I desired to change things, but I didn’t change all of my addictions. In 1998 my child was born while I was in jail--I had missed the birth. Suddenly I desired to get sober and change. However, I was around users. Finally in late 1999 I stopped using illegal drugs. It was hard to stop cold turkey, but I did it.

All but one—alcohol. I did not stop drinking and smoking cigarettes. I lied to myself and rationalized. I justified that a few beers was okay.

However, in 2007 after drinking 42 ounces of beer within a hour, I decided to drive home. I blacked out and landed in a ditch. This was lucky because I know I could have killed someone—even a child. This was my last wake-up call. It came down to ME--not all my bad influences. I stopped.

Then in 2010 I found the Lord. In 2012 I started working for Lighthouse Ministry using my past for good to help others. Life is so much better since then. Good-bye to those years of addictions and hello to sobriety and a better life.me. Suddenly my peers and so-called “friends” were getting worse and so were my addictions.  I did whatever it took to keep my high going legally and illegally. Suddenly there came jail and prison with other so-called friends.

Two Hour High of Marijuana Also Can Cause Permanent Damage

Graphic found on Pinterest from HERE.

Why do we need these substances? Of course there may be some medical benefit in Marijuana, but why recreationally? Because it is easy now?

My addiction rap is out now on YouTube.

Addiction Rap

There are healthy and unhealthy addictions. I wrestle with food, but did lose weight last year. This is a rap that I wrote specifically for DUI classes I teach. I threw in porn, because a young person on my rapping YouTube channel (MC AC The Rap Lady) said this was an issue that I should address in a rap.

Here to be in your face
About your addiction
Don’t get me started
It’s hard to be parted
With your addiction
Lots of friction
You skip tradition
Slip into addiction
Doling out your cash
Getting high on grass
Or meth or cocaïne
Hugging, puffing
Reeling, stuffing
Alcohol seems so splendid
But just causes a dependence
Booze makes you a ball of rage
Will be hard to turn the page
Porn seems too easy
Just makes you sleazy
Relationships now measly
Life is a process
But drugs are a regress
Do you want to kill?
Take that drive
Take that pill
You won’t survive
The heat’ll get ya
And you’ll go to jail
I’ve seen it all ya betcha.
So low you stoop
But it’s time you regroup
Pitch the fiction
Stop the addiction
Don’t escape life
Deal with your strive
Here to be in your face
About you addiction.

Enjoyed teaching my June and July classes. As I told the July class, sure wish you all were my neighbors and I wish you well with your goals and possible addictions. Hope you have shared your goals with a buddy.

Guest Post: Charlie's DUI With Marijuana

By Charlie Meuouis
Student in One of My Classes
Used With His Permission

My DUI was due to driving under the influence of marijuana. Did you know that driving while under the influence of marijuana is the cause of at least 400 automobile accidents per year? And those are only the cases that were reported. It is believed that up to 40,000 fatal accidents go unreported and are actually caused by driving under the influence of marijuana.

In the year 2000 I was 18 years old. I lived a careless and dangerous lifestyle and on October 21, 2000 I made the choice to smoke marijuana and get in my car and drive. It wasn't long before a Winter Haven police pulled me over. As he began to approach my car I panicked. I knew I was under the influence and I knew my breath and clothes reeked with marijuana.

First he asked me, "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"No I don't," I replied.

"You were going well above the speed limit."

Next he asked me, "Are you under the influence of any drugs or alcohol?"

"Nope."

Then the officer gave me a field sobriety test. Of course I failed. I was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail.

Up to this very day, almost thirteen years later I have been dealing with court costs, probation, and other fees. Simple life decisions have cost me more than I would have ever imagined.

The one thing I have learned over this long ordeal is that drugs and alcohol and the decisions you make while under their spell are not worth it. The possibilities of consequences are endless.  Also I learned that my irresponsible actions not only affect me, but the people who care about me. The same applies to anyone else who chooses to drive after marijuana use. Learn the lesson I learned.

When Alcohol or Drugs Take Over

A young man in his twenties in my last class gave me permission to post what he wrote. I wish the best to this young man and thank him I could post. Here is most of what he wrote.
The Account of My Life-Changing DUI

Before this experience I had slowed down on drinking and ended my drug use. . . . I had no idea of the pain I could cause. I had no regard for others' feelings, at least those closest to me, nor how the world viewed me.
I now see how bad I had gotten, how far I had fallen doing things I swore I never would. I lived as if tomorrow was the end, like nothing mattered. I had many vices. I never felt addicted, but I also didn't see the problem I had. I remember the first time I turned down X and coke. I remember blocking numbers [of people who were my triggers].
Now, [he wrote],
I have hope.
I have inspiration.
I learn.
I question.
I wonder.
I dream.
I pray. . . .
There has been too much of my life wasted, spent on numbing myself to the beauty that the world holds--unknown but bright and new. . . . I'm happy to be becoming myself, finding the answers to my questions.
Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous help many who do not have this young man's resolve. Christians also have Biblical Counseling. Treatment and support groups do help. I am losing weight through Weight Watchers. I love this sign about losing weight:

Choose your hard indeed! Change is that--hard. Yet it will be very hard if you go to jail like a Largo, Florida driver who just last week got 44 years in prison for four DUI deaths. The paper reported that DUI driver said, "I'm just lost. I'm terribly lost."
